Anson Fatland
Anson Fatland is the Associate Vice President for Economic Development and External Affairs at Washington State University. After graduating with his PhD in Chemistry from WSU in 2000 he returns to help advance the institution and the economic growth of Washington State. Anson grew up in Kirkland, and, prior to earning his PhD, attended University of Washington. He worked in the biotechnology field in San Francisco for several years where he helped discover and manufacture pharmaceuticals for cancer research. An MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC-Berkeley was key in Anson’s work in venture capital, where working for a San Francisco-based firm he helped launch companies in the healthcare space. Returning to Seattle in 2008 he joined the non-profit realm, working for Paul Allen at the Paul Allen Foundation where he was responsible for the Science & Technology programs. In his three years he grew their portfolio from $25 million to more than $55 million in grants and community investments.
