Recodagen, a biotech start-up headquartered in Ohio, discovered and developed a solid tumor cancer-specific target. This target, Migration inducting gene-7 (Mig-7), is found on membranes of stem cell-like cancer cells and is successfully targeted with peptide vaccine, antibody and RNA interference. Because Mig-7 expression induces invasion in cancer cells it may also serve as a diagnostic marker to detect cancer early. Recodagen’s discovery platform revealed potential disease-specific targets for schleroderma and for Alzheimer’s disease targets.
